On the classroom blackboard, the teacher has written "The Wapshot Chronicle" and the name "John Cheever," the author of that book. A later sitcom to reference John Cheever--a decidedly non-comic author--was "Seinfeld." Episode 8 of Season 4 of that series, aired in October of 1992, is titled "The Cheever Letters." The title is a reference to a box of letters written by Cheever that were in a cabin the character Kramer accidentally burns down.
