Varsha escapes from there with the help of a man named Raja (Saif Ali Khan)

Ikuko is a mature, reserved Kyoto woman married for many years to a respectable, now-middle-aged man. The only problem in their relationship has been that her husband is dissatisfied with her lack of passion during lovemaking. All this changes after they meet the young Mr. Kimura. After the three spend the evening drinking together and Kimura has gone home, Ikuko's husband discovers that his wife, in her alcohol-induced haze, has become far more passionate than she ever was before. The one drawback, however, is that her ardor is clearly fueled by Kimura, and not by him. Though he decides that his wife's new- found passion is worth this unusual price, the long-term consequences may be more than he bargained for.

This story is set in 1959 Japan. Kagi mean key in Japanese, and the story starts with key to husband and wife's diary.

Ikuko Anzai (Naomi Kawashima) is a young second wife of Souichiro Anzai (Akira Kusumoto) , but she is sexually inhibited and acts frigid ( she has great sexual organ according to Souichiro). In order to arouse his wife's sexual desire, Souichiro writes his erotic desire for his wife in his diary, and puts the key to his diary where his wife can find it so she would read it. Kenich Kimura (Mikio Osawa) is a womanizer and when Souichiro saw Kimura approach Ikuko and seeing that Ikuko has interest in him, sets them up so they would have feelings for each other. He then writes his jealousy in his diary so Ikuko would read it. He was hoping that young Kimura would act as an aphrodisiac for their sexual affairs. Ikuko also writes her emotions in her diary knowing that her husband reads it, and this play continued between the two. While at this, Souichiro's health starts to decline. Ikuko is now dating Kimura. Souichiro is believing his wife's faithfulness, but is tortured by jealousy, and gets sexually over aroused. He has a stroke while having sex with Ikuko. In his death bed, Ikuko reads her diary to Souichiro that tells the true relation between herself and Kimura. In there was written a complex form of love for Souichiro.

Unlikely story of sexual intrigue, but it's also a touching love story none the less. Ex Hikaru Genji's member (and its leader) Mikio Osawa plays the supporting role, and Naomi Kawashima although in her late 30s, shows her last nude in this movie. It's a great story driven movie based on the famous Japanese novelist Junichiro Tanizaki's novel of the same title. If you are a Japanese movie fan, this is worth watching.

..... but with a few differences. For instance, nearly everything is done with the full knowledge of all the other characters, though not always with them knowing. The husband and wife read each other's diaries, the husband allows Kimura to take Ikuko out, Kimura beds and proposes to the older man's daughter in order to spend more time with Ikuko.

I was quite impressed. Although the pace is generally quite slow, there is a lot happening here, to which the above descrip and plot summary only partly allude to. Emoto Akira as the elder photographer gives a terrific performance, and both Naomi K and the younger girl are very sexy (both do nude scenes, Naomi appearing briefly full frontal).

I found it a little difficult to find a suitable genre label, but I think the most suitable description is black comedy. Kimura at first jokingly discusses killing off the husband and at first Ikuko resists the temptation to actually do the act with him (she calls out his name during sex with her husband instead, which the husband encourages).

Overall, if not quite a great film, it is compelling, edgy and at times very funny.
