This film is about an old man recounting his life through his youth, the Japanese occupation and his later life.

The characters are vivid and greatly developed. Walterina's youth is told very well, and I can certainly feel the pain when he got physically abused by his unsupportive brother. The Japanese occupation is only briefly touched upon, so I find it a bit misleading to have the film named "Markova: Comfort Gay". The film successfully avoids being soft porn, which I thought it was when I first saw the title. It is in fact a touching portrayal of coming out, strong bonds of friendship, and surviving through tough times. I wish this film can reach a wider audience than the mere 36 votes it currently has.

The movie centers on the life of Markova a homosexual. His struggles during his younger years with his brother who can't accept him. The sexual abuse he experienced during the second world war and the dilemma of being alone during his old age.

The movie is both funny and touching. It also show the horror of war.

what's so cool about the movie? the lead role was played by Dolphy Quizon as old marcova Jeffrey quizon as the young marcova and Erick Quizon as the mid-age marcova and yes jeffrey and erick are the sons of Dolphy.

Markova: Comfort Gay is a biographical-drama based on the life of Walter Dempster Jr., the last surviving Filipino comfort gay from World War II. The character was played by actor Dolphy, who played the adult Markova together with Eric Quizon and Jeffrey Quizon, played the role of two younger Markovas in two more different phases of his life. The film is directed by Gil Portes.

The film tells the story of his hardships during his childhood and his travails during the World War II Japanese Occupation. While Spending his waning days at the Home for the Golden Gays, Markova sees Nana Rosa on TV and is moved to tears. He relates his experiences to the unbelieving TV journalist Loren Legarda. Then the movie transports us back in time when Markova suffered from the torment of growing up with an abusive older brother. Also,he and his friends found further suffering at the hands of Japanese soldiers, forced into sex work in order to survive.

The movie deals with the delicate theme of homosexuality and the violation of homosexuals.Every human person is a child of God. Hence, he/she must be given the respect and dignity that is due to him/her. I could say that the movie's message is revolutionary especially in a Catholic country like the Philippines.

Also, the movie is filled with great acting performances. Late comedian Dolphy sheds his clownish mask to portray a fading homosexual convincingly. This has got to be the best film he has ever made. While Eric Quizon shows restraint and versatility. Jeffrey Quizon is funny, lovable and gains audience sympathy as a teenage gay finally coming out of the closet. In short, each actor played Markova convincingly at different stages of his life.

Overall, this is a must-see for everyone not only for its revolutionary gay themes but also for being one of the best films ever made in the Philippines.

A Pinoy classic indeed!!!
